Leticia Paes

Leticia Paes

I am a psychoanalyst and a member of the British Psychoanalytical Society with experience working in NHS settings and at the London Clinic of Psychoanalysis.

Coming from an interdisciplinary background, I offer a non-judgmental, creative and safe setting for listening and understanding, where together we can make sense of complex experiences that are often difficult to put into words.

I work with adults (from young adults to older age), who are struggling with a range of issues in their lives such as depression, low-self-esteem, anxiety, obsessions, separation, losses, traumas, relationship and personality problems. I also offer a space of self-discovery and reflection. I think of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy as an experimental process where an encounter between therapist and patient can create a space for growth and development.

In addition to my clinical experience, I have worked for several years with human rights organisations in Latin America, and I have an academic background in legal studies and philosophy, also working and teaching in the UK. My experience working with trauma, social and political violence gave me an understanding of the impact of  how complex social contexts impact on an individual’s mental life. Therefore, I am also interested in the issues of trauma, mourning, memory, identity and the effects of racism and discrimination.

I trained at the Institute of Psychoanalysis and I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council.
