Dr Anastasia Apostolou

I am a psychiatrist trained in Medical Psychotherapy and General Adult Psychiatry and member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. I am a Psychoanalyst and a member of the British Psychoanalytical Society. I have trained in Psychodynamic, Group, Family, Cognitive Behavioural and Mentalisation Based therapies; I offer consultation and treatment to adult patients experiencing a range of clinical problems like depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties and those who have history of traumatic experiences. I see both individual patients and couples. Through my past work in general medicine, neurology and liaison psychiatry I have developed an interest in the way that somatic conditions and ailments interplay with and express an individual’s psychic world and experience, in the psychological aspects of somatic illness and somatic expressions of emotional distress. I have a special interest in working for a long time with patients who have such experiences and my work is consistently informed by those parameters.

Through my experience of working in various NHS and private settings I collected a rich experience both with regards to direct clinical work and in the way in which individuals interact within different communities and systems, how they are impacted by team dynamics; I believe this as aspect influences my clinical work.

I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council and the General Medical Council.
