Michael Morris

I trained in couple therapy at Tavistock Relationships, qualifying in 2008 and working at TR as a visiting clinician until 2021.

Helping couples in crisis to manage difficult feelings is a rare privilege.  I have always been curious as to what underlies partner choice and the often-unconscious factors that determine the dynamics and tensions of interrelating. I firmly believe that difference and conflict can be catalysts for creativity in a couple, approaching my work with openness, imagination and experience. Without recourse to judgement, I hope to explore what it can mean to be together as a couple yet separate as individuals in a relationship where autonomy and intimacy can combine to create positive change.

My interest in working with couples has also inspired me to develop a therapeutic framework for helping adult siblings who struggle with their relationship, either through conflict or estrangement.

I enjoyed a long career in the arts, beginning at the ICA in the 1980s and continuing as Co-Director of Artangel from 1991-2023. I was made MBE in 2012 for cultural innovation and services to the arts.

I've been a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) since 2009.
