Ian Williamson

I have been a child psychotherapist for over 30 years. I trained at the Society of Analytical Psychology in the 1980’s after a peripatetic career teaching troubled children in a variety of settings. I worked in a number of child guidance centres before moving into private practice full time about 20 years ago.

Although I work with families, parents and young children my main interest these days is in adolescence. I also do some work for a transgender assessment service for teenagers which I recently helped set up with a colleague.

I have taught abroad and previously lectured part-time lecturer at Essex University in Post-Jungian Child Analysis. Over the last 5 years I have also become involved in mentoring several professional cricketers.

I have written 2 books, We Need to Talk, a straight-talking guide to raising resilient teenagers (Vermilion Press) and co-authored, with Paul Gogarty Winning at all Costs, Sporting Gods and their Demons (Robson Books).

Some of my ideas and thoughts about children and adolescence can also be accessed on my blog www.ianwilliamson.org.uk

I am registered with the Association of Child Psychotherapists.
