I am a chartered clinical psychologist and a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I have worked in private practice and a range of public mental health settings for 20 years. As a clinical psychologist I have trained in different therapeutic modalities but have specialised as a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I have expertise in working with adults exploring issues related to sexuality and identity, as well as depression and anxiety, struggles with feelings of shame and low self-esteem, intimacy and interpersonal problems. I offer both time-limited and longer-term psychotherapy, at once weekly frequency or more, depending on your needs. I also offer Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), a 16-session therapy for depression and anxiety related to interpersonal difficulties.
I am a senior member and board member of the British Psychotherapy Foundation (BPF), and Chair of the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association within the BPF. I am a registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist with the British Psychoanalytic Council. I am a registered practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council, as well as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
As well as a clinician, I have for many years worked as an academic and researcher. I have published several books and papers on clinical psychology and psychoanalytic practice, and on matters of sexuality, marginalised identities and mental health. I retain an Honorary Senior Lecturer post at the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex, and continue to teach on various clinical trainings. I offer supervision to psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapist for their psychodynamic work.
If you would like a preliminary discussion regarding the possibility of working together, please contact me by email and I will be happy to arrange a time to speak with you. We can then meet for an initial consultation in order to develop a deeper understanding of your difficulties and agree upon a plan for psychotherapy.
